Honors Faculty Fellows

Contributions
Honors Faculty Fellows are asked to contribute to the program in a number of meaningful ways:
- Teach one 1-credit hour seminar per year. The University Honors Program has topic-based sections (HNRS 190) for students admitted to the program out of high school and an experiential learning-based seminar (HNRS 195) for transfer students or students admitted after their first semester of college.
- Contribute to faculty mentoring efforts by holding one office hour per week in Nunemaker Center. Honors Faculty Fellows use this time to meet with students about projects, career plans, and programmatic requirements.
- Participate in a small number of recruitment activities for high school students and families, such as Scholar Days and admitted student receptions.
- Participate in co-curricular programs (alumni visits, annual nature walk, Common Cause activities with community partners, etc.) that deepen learning and build community.
- Assist with the review of applications for admission, as well as selection and mentoring processes for program awards and national scholarships.
Eligibility
Honors Faculty Fellow positions are open to all faculty and full-time lecturers in all schools. Applicants should hold some combination of the following experiences:
- A commitment to fostering interdisciplinarity as well as deep learning in the major.
- A record of successful collaboration with faculty and staff on the delivery of academic experiences for students.
- Previous involvement in the teaching or mentoring of undergraduate students.
Terms and compensation
Honors Faculty Fellows serve two-year terms with an option for renewal. Fellows should expect to commit 15 hours per month to the role with some variation depending on the time of year and program needs.
Fellows receive a stipend of $7,500 (gross) per academic year, which the program issues as two overload payments in the amount of $3750 in December and May. The teaching of the honors seminar is considered part of the Honors Faculty Fellow activity and should not require adjustment of department or school teaching responsibilities.
Applications
The program will be appointing several new positions to begin in fall 2026 and spring 2027. Applicants must submit a CV and a letter of interest (one-page limit) to honors@ku.edu by Thursday, May 7 for consideration.
