Additional events
Outside of signature KU Honors programming, honors students gather for these annual events, all of which have become eagerly anticipated program traditions.
The following events are offered each year as part of the honors program experience:
- Honors Seminar Symposium: The culmination of the HNRS 190 experience, the Honors Seminar Symposium gathers hundreds of first-year students from dozens of seminars to convey their learning from the fall semester, celebrate each others' achievements, and connect for a final time before winter break. Displays and creative projects give attendees a chance to engage with seminar topics and student insights, with a committee of former HNRS 190 students reviewing the work of each seminar and recognizing a handful as standouts.
- Schedule Release Parties: On the occasion of the release of the following semester's course schedule, the honors program hosts a gathering in Nunemaker Center to allow students to review course offerings, discuss experiences and preferences with peers, and meet with honors advisors from Jayhawk Academic Advising. Attendees enjoy mini cinnamon rolls from a beloved local bakery and share their favorite courses for a chance to receive program apparel.
- Nature Walk: Twice a year, honors students are invited on a guided twilight nature walk on a trail in the Lawrence area. Participants enjoy light outdoor activity, local biodiversity, and good conversation with the honors community. Past nature walks have taken students, staff, and faculty through the Baker Wetlands, the riverfront of the Kansas River, and Lawrence Nature Park.
