Advising & Resources
Honors advising is about more than just picking classes. A University Honors advisor is a vital resource and sounding board for students throughout their academic careers, from choosing a major to finding research opportunities to preparing for life after college.
Students should meet with their Honors advisor at least once a semester and view the advising session as a time to discuss future semesters, major/minor options, involvement opportunities, and long-range plans.
Over their four years at KU, Honors students are encouraged to develop an "Advisory Board" that includes their Honors advisor, their major advisor, career mentors, peer mentors, favorite professors, and more. Honors students are encouraged to use our Advisory Board Tracking Form to keep track of their various advisors' contact information.
Enrollment is around the corner and the Honors advising team wants to ensure you have the tools you need to effectively enroll in your courses for the upcoming Summer and Fall semesters. Below are a couple of resources that can assist if you encounter any challenges. Please note that the priority enrollment date is Thursday, March 26th. As usual, feel free to contact your Honors advisors with any questions you may have via email at honors@ku.edu

Honors students have many advisors. The instructor for the first-year seminar serves as the mentor for the students enrolled in his/her seminar. Honors students are encouraged to visit an advisor in the Honors Program. Additionally, once a student has decided on a major, it is extremely important to start seeing an advisor in that Department and/or School. Students are encouraged to see their Honors advisor throughout their time at KU as well to help track progress toward fulfilling the requirements for completion.
Note: Students in the Honors Program do NOT have to be advised by the University Advising Center.
Enrollment times are posted to the student's Enroll and Pay account and the MyKU Portal. Students are required to meet with an advisor prior to enrolling. Below, please find some training materials to assist with course selection and enrollment:

Students are responsible for taking care of any holds on their record. These holds can prevent a student from enrolling. For an explanation of the various holds, see the hold chart (xls). Honors Program staff can lift FAH (Freshman Advising Hold) and NCD (non-declared major under 60 hours) holds. Other holds, such as financial, housing, or parking, must be lifted by the appropriate administrative office.
Transfer Students: Transfer students should make appointments with one of the staff members at Nunemaker Center in addition to seeing an advisor in their major department.
Engineering Student Advising: Students in the School of Engineering must meet with an Engineering Advisor in the School. It is important for Engineering students to also meet with an Honors advisor at Nunemaker (or through their Freshman Seminar) to track the requirements for completing the Honors Program.
Students admitted to other schools will be instructed about their advising requirements through their schools. Pre-professional honors students are advised through the Honors Program.
